Village Elections on Tuesday -- The CR endorses Ron Lambrix.

In case you have not noticed all of the signs around town, we have a village election coming up. I encourage all eligible village residents to get out to vote on Tuesday, September 15. The main contest in the upcoming election is for the office of Village President. In recent years, this position has been a source of controversy. In the last village election incumbant Glen Goodnight was defeated by Joe Diaz. Mr. Diaz subsequently resigned from the position, leaving Don Mell as acting President. Mr. Mell has been clear that he has no desire to continue as Village President. This brings us to the upcoming election, in which Mr. Goodnight (now a councilman) is running for election to his former post against fellow councilman Ron Lambrix.

For the office of Village President, the Carleton Reporter endorses Ron Lambrix. Since becoming a councilman for the village, Mr. Lambrix has shown an intense desire to see our village strengthened and improved. He has been an outspoken advocate about the need for grants and other income sources that would allow us to make the improvements that we need without creating additional costs to village residents. Mr. Lambrix has a vision for our village, which would likely improve Carleton's image and potentially bring money and people into the village to support our local businesses. As a small business owner himself (He is co-owner of Ron's Place with his wife Brenda), he has a vested interest in seeing this vision realized. Furthermore, he has consistently demonstrated the willingness and the ability to make progress toward this vision. In addition to his service to the Village Council, Mr. Lambrix has been very involved with Carlteon Goodfellows, which has, among other things, been instrumental in providing food to local needy families through its food collection drives.

Regardless of you intend to vote for, the most important thing is that you get out to vote on Tuesday if you are eligible to do so. Such important decisions should involve the entire community. It is easy to get so caught up in national and state politics that we forget that our village government has perhaps a greater impact on our day to day lives. So, once again, I encourage all eligible Carleton residents to get out to vote on Tuesday.
