Railfanning

About a month ago, I decided to see if there was any video on youtube.com about Carleton. As I received the results from my search I discovered a hobby that I had never heard of, Railfanning.

Here is a definition for Railfan: A railfan or rail buff, railway enthusiast or railway buff, or (often with a more specialized meaning, described below) trainspotter, is a person interested in an amateur capacity in rail transport.

So, as a result, I found some Railfanning videos people shot right here in downtown Carleton.

This seemed to be the best one I found. Enjoy!

Re-cap of Village Meeting

Village Council Meeting Monday, March 9th.

The Village is still looking for a Blight Officer. If you are interested the cut off date for applications is Wednesday March 18. Stop by the Village Hall for more details.

Ron Lambrix, the newest council member, also suggested the council should send out letters in an effort to get money from the stimulus package. If possible, these funds would go towards helping to make Carleton a nicer community. Suggested uses of the money include purchasing new street lamps, roads and sidewalks. Ron stated that he was not sure if we would qualify, but that it was worth trying.

These meetings are every other Monday night at 7PM.

The Carleton Seal

The Carleton seal depicts five important areas of our heritage.

The flag symbolizes cherished freedom and the memory of those who served the country through the years.

The church emphases the strong religious influence in the building of the community.

The farmer, plow, growing corn, and stalk of wheat symbolize the influence agriculture had on the development of the area.

The train engine symbolizes the four cross road settlements of Clark City, Athlone, Grafton, and Briar Hill that were the forerunners of the community of Carleton.

The industrial structure represents the birth of modern heavy industry in the Carleton area. All combine to honor Carleton’s heritage and symbolize the spirit that has in the past and will in the future make Carleton a superior community in which to live and work.

All information is from the Village of Carleton Website
